For teams working out what testing will cost

How we price QA and testing

Our rate is $25 to $45 an hour, depending on seniority and specialization. Pricing is quoted per project, so what you pay depends on what you ask us to do. This page explains how that works before you have to talk to anyone.

After a scoping call you get a written proposal within 2 business days.

The hourly rate

$25-45per hour

The rate depends on seniority and specialization. A tester who runs regression passes sits toward the lower end of the range. A senior engineer, or a specialist in areas such as performance, security or automation, sits toward the upper end. Most engagements mix the two.

The five tools we built ourselves are included at no licence cost, so there is no separate line for test management, automation or reporting software.

Pricing is quoted per project

We do not publish a package list, because two products that look similar on paper can need very different amounts of testing. A small team shipping weekly needs something different from a regulated product with one release a quarter.

So the proposal states the scope, the team, the hours we expect it to take, and the cost, and it is written for your product rather than adapted from a template.

The shape of the engagement

The price follows the shape of the work. These are the models, each with its own page:

  • QA outsourcing. Project-based work: you hand us a defined piece of testing, from a full function to one specialist task, and we plan it, run it and report on it.
  • QA staffing. A dedicated team of engineers working inside your process, under your lead.
  • Managed testing services. QA as a service: we run the testing function end to end, and one person answers for the result.
  • Software testing services. The full list of what we test, if you are still working out which of the above you need.

Not sure which fits? That is a normal place to start, and the scoping call is where we work it out.

From first call to first invoice

  • Scoping call. You tell us what you ship and how often. We ask what is hurting.
  • Written proposal within 2 business days. Scope, team, expected hours and cost, in writing.
  • Two weeks, free if you are not happy. We embed, read the product, write the first tests and file real bugs. If you are not happy with what we deliver, you do not pay for those weeks.
  • Invoicing from week three. Only if you decide to continue.
