Introduction: employee Spotlight
It’s that time again! Here is our next employee spotlight: let’s talk about Marian Lazar!
What is your role at BetterQA?
My role here is as a quality assurance engineer, and I’m currently working on two projects. On the second project, I mainly help and train my junior colleagues.
Before BetterQA, what previous jobs did you have?
My family owns a farm, so most of my free or non-school-related time was spent working there with my parents. An exciting thing that I had the chance to do is drive tractors, but there are many unusual things that you can do at a farm.
Why did you join BetterQA, and what has kept you here?
I told some of my friends that I was looking for a job that would allow me to continue my university studies. One of them was working at BetterQA at the time and told me to give it a try. I did! That way, I learned about the testing world, where I enjoyed learning something new daily. A few reasons that kept me here were that it is a great place to expand my skill set, there are many opportunities, and great colleagues who are always there to help if needed.
What do you find the most challenging, and what do you like most at BetterQA?
In the beginning, almost everything was challenging, but after I got to learn and improve my skills, everything got easier. Now, one of the hardest things to do for me is to avoid the repetition of testing. However, BQA is doing a great job with that, allowing and encouraging us to explore new ways to work and learn new skills that we could use in our day-to-day work and being supportive of ways to expand our skillset.
What career path would you follow if you weren't doing this?
I am not sure what I would do, but I guess I would probably finish my Electrical Engineering degree and get a job in the field.
What advice do you have for prospective BetterQA candidates?
If I had to start again, one piece of advice I would give myself is to be open-minded and more confident. If your mindset is to learn and improve, you will definitely do a great job.
How do you spend your time outside of the office?
I enjoy playing video games, so that is one of the main things I do when I’m not working. I also like to go out for drinks with my friends and spend time with my parents once or twice a month when I visit home.
What's a fun fact about you that not many people know?
I won the mouse I currently use for work at a Hearthstone competition.
Where's your favorite place in the world?
I did not travel a lot, so it’s hard to choose a place, but I would love to visit Japan, Tokyo. It’s a beautiful country with a lot of history and culture that I find fascinating.
What is the weirdest fact you know?
One fun fact I know is that Koalas have fingerprints that are very similar to human fingerprints.
